Again, I cannot exclaim enough about this series. "The Witches Dream" is the second in this series of the Knights of the Black Swan, and I am enchanted. The characters and their stories intertwine without getting all muddled, and they all somehow make sense in the context of the hero/villain and their cultures. The characters from the previous book are back and more are introduced and the cast continues to grow and develop right along with their various stories. This book supposedly features Storm and Litha (which it does) but brings in more personalities each with their own variations of demon, elf, fae, werewolf, vampire (or ex-vampire) and a few humans thrown in. Action, adventure, anger, sorrow, rapture, romance -- name it -- this book has it. The Witch Dream The Order of the Black Swan Book 2 Knights of Black Swan Book 2 Victoria Danann 9781933320632 Books Reviews
The Witch's Dream took off right where My Familiar Stranger left off, perfectly, a 4.5 out of 5 rating rounded up to a solid 5. Packed full of paranormal fun, adventure, mystery, magic, excitement and romance that many fans of the genre will fully enjoy!
In this book there are various things going on so it's difficult for me to discuss characters like I normally would for a review. What I can tell you is each and every event is suspenseful, exciting, touching (in some cases sensual) and definitely enjoyable to experience. I feel as if I got to enjoy various books/stories all-in-one fab read!
We meet many new characters. Litha and Song, and a handsome Fae prince (just to name a couple) and still get to see many of our favorites from the last book. Elora and Ram have continued on with their arrangement they left off with in the last book and we get to see before our very eyes others that fall very deeply into the fabulous trap that is love.
Even though this is the second book of The Order of the Black Swan series, it can be read as a stand-alone because of Victoria's skillful writing. However, I DO NOT recommend doing so because then you will miss out on some great fun, enjoyable antics and some of the character growth that occurs from book 1 into book 2. I know I enjoyed experiencing it all )
I really did enjoy the first book even though there were things that irritated me. I could connect with the characters and for the most part it flowed well. Now what the heck was this?
First of all, the characters that I grew to love all seemed to have different personalities. Storm, the strong willed and intelligent leader has turned into an immature baby. Baka, who was portrayed as this mysterious and sexy vampire turns human and now he's like an idiot frat boy. Elora has no flaws. She's just the all knowing and everything goes her way gal. Whatever.
There's a set up for Deliverance coming into the picture and the whole incubus story is intriguing...until nothing comes out of it. I'm sorry but he's a demon for crying out loud. There's nothing demon-like about this character. Litha never once questions her relation to the demon, asks about her mother or history and just accepts it all in the span of 10 seconds? Storm suddenly shows some magic capabilities and that's never touched on?
The whole werewolf story. I can only call this B Team meets Sesame Street. It should have never been incorporated into the story any more than the vampire thing should have been incorporated into the first book because nothing really came of that either.
There is absolutely no need to have two, somewhat three, wedding scenes in one book. It's complete overkill.
To top it off, this book probably would have only been half the length if it weren't for useless rambling about food and being overly descriptive about things that are irrelevant. I almost quit reading this book after about 75 pages and only continued to write this review. I can say that I won't be able to read the next one.
It took a little time to acclimate to the rather impersonal writing style of Danaan, but I was eventually charmed - in the 1st book. This one... It's just so boring. I keep telling myself that it will pick up like 'Familiar Stranger,' but it just keeps dragging on.
First it read like an encyclopedia of fictional demonology, then switched to an apparent wish fulfillment of an elven wedding. Not to mention who needs both a prologue AND a Forward? Yeesh.
The point-of-view is all over the place. The description is so prosaic, it's nearly purple. And holy backstory! So far thats most of what the book has been. I started skipping around 10%, not intentionally, but just in the off chance things might pick up. But so far at 18%, nada. Where's the plot? The main characters in the cover description, Storm and Litha, have hardly been mentioned yet. It's just frivolities about what cord to use and sexy-time with Elora and Ram.
Will I finish it? Maaaybee. I don't know if I have the patience. Then again, Danaan's writing isn't terrible, it's just that there's no story yet. Just character after character cavorting in the fae castle. Yawn. For now - enough. I'm moving on to another book. Maybe I'll come back to it when I feel more tolerant on endless exposition. It's a good thing I caught this one as a freebie or I'd really be disgruntled.
Another great story. Victoria not only had me falling more in love with Ram & Storm but she had me liking Deliverance. Now that takes skills to make you like a bad guy, a incubus demon at that.
I enjoy seeing the guys go through the changes when they realize that they are falling or have fallen in love & will do anything to make their women happy. The way their characters develop from bad ass Knights to bad ass sweet lovers.
I want to say more about the book but I am notorious about giving out spoilers....lol......But I LOVE spending time with The Knights & their families. If you like the world of paranormal & romance then read this series. I am so glad that I waited till I have all current 7 books so that I don't have to wait to spend time with them. I can continue reading & spending time with them because Victoria writes the stories so well that any time you spend waiting for the next one just feels like torture. At least it does for me........Happy Reading!!
