This is not only a wonderful cookbook, but its essays are thoughtful and intriguing. The book itself seduces readers to visit one of America's greatest restaurants, at a site hidden away in secluded Boulder, Utah, where you can stay at this tranquil Inn and eat exquisite meals, taking local excursions to an amazing native American museum in Boulder, as well as hiking the incredible surroundings. The drive there from Escalante is, without question, the most amazing road in the United States, skipping on the bluffs and precipices of canyons --a legacy of the WPA.Tags : With a Measure of Grace: The Story and Recipes of a Small Town Restaurant [Blake Spalding, Jennifer Castle, Lavinia Spalding, Eric Swanson, Terry Tempest Williams] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Love it. Love stories and pictures about the bakers and the place.
Was happy to find this on . We loved our meals at the restraunt during our vacation and wanted a "souviner" that would let us try the recipies and enjoy the owners' story for years to come.
Such a lovely cookbook! Filled with delicious recipes, beautiful photographs and heartfelt stories about restaurant life in a small Utah town and how her Buddhist faith weaves through all aspects of her life. I really hope to someday get to Hell's Backbone Grill.
More than recipes, it’s about a community in a remote location that is endangered by energy/mineral extraction. A visit is one more item for the bucket list, before it’s ruined. Beautifully wrapped and arrived quickly.
Love, love, love this beautiful blend of cooking, life, and recipes. A fantastic read with delicious food along the way.
Loved the book so much, my husband and I drove to Boulder, UT for a long weekend and ate at Hell's Backbone Grill 4 times! The book is a wonderful story of how the restaurant came to be and includes many fabulous recipes for us to try. I've pre-ordered the next book, can't wait for it to come out. Really hope they include the recipe for Braised Beef that we had in the restaurant. It was AMAZING!
You have to consider this as an experiential cookbook, not just page after page of recipes with a long intro. It's a good read AND the recipes are original. I've actually eaten at the restaurant in Boulder, UT., and having read and sampled the cookbook a year or two before that, I really enjoyed the food AND the work that goes into their food. They supposedly have another cookbook coming out in Spring of 2016.
