Finding My Thunder eBook Diane Munier

"Finding My Thunder" is a poignant and profound story about a young woman named Hilly growing up in the 1960's. She is a shy and quiet person who learns from life and takes a stand for what she believes in. The story is written so descriptively that the reader can step into Hilly's shoes and feel and experience her 1960's life at home and at school when we hear about her fashions, music, and daily habits. We also learn about Danny, the boy she has loved since she was a child. There are mysteries around Hilly that are gradually revealed as she gets older. She learns the importance of her family and friends that protect her, and what they are protecting her from. Along with the serious events in her life, there are some hilarious ones when Hilly meets and becomes friends with some of the hippies at school who help Hilly find her voice and speak up for herself, something that no one else has done before. In spite of Hilly's trials, she learns love and forgiveness and overcomes difficulties that most people could not.

This is a moving story with excellent writing. I recommend it for everyone.

Finding My Thunder eBook Diane Munier Reviews

Hard to read the life of such a hurt filled soul!!! Your words are so well written, one almost feels like the character. I know your have more great books to write and waiting with excitement.
Beautiful story. Intense at times, and sad, but also hopeful. It's life, and I loved it.
Possibly one of my favorite books by this author.
A great and powerful story! I admired Hilly, and loved Danny, both being so young and yet so strong. The story is so well written, I loved every single sentence of it. I can't wait for Diane's next book.
I’ve read all Diane Munier’s stories, each one a lesson in life told by a woman who understands how people persist through hardship, sorrow and joy. Her ability to to recreate historical periods with such realism and portray how people lived and felt about the world around is amazing to me. Don’t miss a single one!
The story is of a young girl overcoming the expectations of society to find her path and stay true to herself. Anyone can gain a lot from reading this one but those of us who lived through those years of the Viet Nam War, hippies, the civil rights movement, and social change from the small town point of view will see ourselves on every page.
Hilly Grunier is a survivor and a fighter. She's compassionate, forgiving, and when she loves, she loves with everything she has. She grew up in a time of great change, with a mother who was too ill to take care of her and a father who didn't want to. This is the story of Hilly and Danny, the boy she has always loved. So much of Hilly's life, from the family secrets to the way of life she lived in a small southern town, mirrors my own mother's life.
Diane makes you feel like you are living and breathing the lives of her characters. I can't wait for her next one.
Munier does a great job bringing her characters to life, ones that you truly care about. The story takes place in the Vietnam War era, and she gets the details, mood, and setting right. Teenager Hilly is a fully-realized, sympathetic character and the romance between her and Danny carries the story. But the core of the novel is Hilly's strength, a young woman who doesn't sit down and give up when faced with her trials and tribulations. Race is an important issue in the story, and I was often confused as to the race (mixed and otherwise) of the characters. But this story is so strong, that's not enough to take away one of my five stars!
